T2

T2 is a Keyboard-Percussion duo that fuses rhythms and melodies from around the globe with elements of jazz, funk, fusion, and rock.  The tandem’s sturdy cauldron of thick grooves and exotic textures provides a bed for angular melodic lines and soaring solos. A slow walk through an exotic Moroccan marketplace can suddenly shift to a cafe on the streets of Paris or a tribal dance in Zimbabwe. Then, you may suddenly find a traditional solo piano piece neatly sandwiched between the childlike interplay of a Brazilian sun splash and the urban pulse of Saturday night in New York.  Think of T2 as musical globetrotters.

Tom Alexander has been composing and performing music for over twenty-five years. He has led or co-led several fusion groups that have played throughout the Northeast. The composer of several soundtracks for PBS documentaries as well as commercial jingles and motion pictures, his music is heard in a variety of contexts. After moving to South Florida in 1996, Alexander immediately began playing solo keyboards at venues throughout the area. With T2 , he’s afforded the ability to have a live musical dialogue with another musician. He draws sounds and layers from his keyboards that create the illusion several musicians are at work, but never strays too far from his solo piano roots.

Tommy G. Lee is a veteran of the South Florida and national music scenes playing with everyone from Blood, Sweat and Tears to the late, great electric bass pioneer Jaco Pastorius.  His innovative style not only rests with the traditional trap drum kit, but on percussion instruments from India, Africa, South America and all over the world. And it is an amalgam of rhythms from these foreign lands that propels T2′s hyper-rhythmic juggernaut. Lee’s seamless beat shifts transport the listener to all points on the globe and drive the duo in their improvisational sojourns.  Firmly rooted in the traditions of both rock and jazz, Lee utilizes both styles as the launching pad for his original experimental sound.
