June 13, 2011

Hi All:

Our good friend and Earth Code bass player, Jim Kessler is moving on to some new musical projects for the foreseeable future which will take him some great distances. We wish him great success and hope he will once again someday soon join us on stage.

In the meantime, Tommy G. Lee and I will search for new musicians for our Earth Code band, and possibly dust off some of the old T2 repertoire for some late summer gigs. Until then, we’ll be taking a bit of time off  and enjoying our summer.

I have been composing some new tunes for a recording we hope to make early next year.

Look forward to seeing you all again at our local South Florida haunts soon.

Best,

Tom

Found this sketch from 2005. Not sure these are specific musicians per se, just an amalgam of hep cats.

The Collective is Back: Improviser/Composer/Keyboardist’s Art-Music Collaborations Permalink | No Comments Yet

The Collective, a series of artist-musician multimedia collaborations, is back. These presentations combine Tom Alexander’s live musical soundscapes with the visual collections of the finest artists and photographers.

“Tom performed music for three nights of multimedia showings of my photos from Africa,” said Philadelphia-based photo artist, Albert Winston. “The seamless shifts in rich harmonic textures and rhythms were astonishing. It was as if Tom had accompanied me on the photo shoot. And each night, the music was different. It was a totally perfect marriage of my visuals and his music played in real time. It was a treat for the senses.”

Drawing on tribal and folk music from around the globe as well as his own rock, classical, and jazz roots, Alexander builds walls of sound, lush, ethereal textures and pulsating rhythms with his bank of keyboards. Virtually nothing is sequenced. As a true improvising artist, the music is created in the moment. Even the rhythms are tweaked organically in real time. Often accompanied by longtime musical band mate, percussionist, Tommy G. Lee, this fusion of art and music is an exhilarating experience.

Archeological Dig Reveals Old Piano Tracks Permalink | No Comments Yet

Look What We Found

If you’ve ever found a ten dollar bill in a discarded pair of pants, you know the feeling. It’s a pleasant surprise.

After cleaning out a storage area of some old musical artifacts, I unearthed the master tapes of some long ago discarded music. The project was shelved due a budget cut by a small independent label I was associated with. Fortunately, I owned the masters and the contract elapsed. So now we’re exploring the possibility of releasing this music independently. The next step is reviewing the music – what’s been mixed and what hasn’t as well as fixing any technical glitches. I can tell you this – it was intended to be the follow up to the What’s Ahead? CD.

Flying Against the Time Zones wound up being the follow up CD, therefore we’ve discovered a couple of musical sketches and early versions of music that eventually wound up on FATZ. Those tracks may be included when this new “old” project is finished as bonus material. Still deliberating over that possibility.

We’ll keep you updated here as this project progresses.
